Job Title: Caretaker Department: Beechwood Hills Christian Camp Reports To: Designated Board of Director Member
Summary Under general supervision, the major responsibilities of the Caretaker(s) is/are to provide a clean, attractive, and safe environment for all users of Beechwood Hills Christian Camp. Associated duties will include ordering supplies, maintaining inventories, and keeping records are required by the Board of Directors. The Caretaker will be in direct contact with the person in charge of camp rentals (Administrator). The Directors require the camp and the Caretaker residence to be maintained at acceptable levels of neatness and cleanliness. The Caretaker will be always a good ambassador for the Camp.
Supervision: The Directors are responsible for all Policies and operating procedures at the Camp. The Directors will designate a Liaison(s) to provide guidance to the Caretaker, and which will be the Caretaker’s direct contact person. At the request of the Directors, the Caretaker will meet with members of the Board for discussion of specific issues on the general operation of the Camp. The Caretaker is invited and encouraged to attend the Camp Board of Directors’ monthly meetings. The Caretaker will be required to submit a written monthly report prior to these meetings.
General Requirements:
This position requires an individual to be a member in good standing of the church of Christ.
Person should be sympathetic with the purpose and mission of Beechwood Hills Christian Camp.
The Caretaker should have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must be experienced in general maintenance duties.
Must have the ability to operate and maintain equipment.
Demonstrate record keeping skills.
Must satisfactory complete a criminal background check, upon employment.
Able to live on site
A valid Driver’s License
Job Responsibilities:
Understand, support, and promote the Camp’s purpose and mission.
The Caretaker must be a good ambassador and always set a Christian example for the Camp.
Grounds and General Maintenance
To maintain the grounds by keeping grass neatly mowed and trimmed, removing trash and any downed trees and branches.
Keep trash/litter barrels available, lined and emptied when necessary. Separate barrels for returnables are also to be maintained. (Bottle return funds are to be kept for Canteen)
Call to have trash dumped when full. (Trash is picked up on Fridays by call basis only)
To keep all equipment, clean and in good working condition, properly stored, and used only for the intended purposes.
Keep a maintenance schedule log for oil changes, blade replacement, and any work done on the equipment.
To keep all buildings and furnishings safe, clean, and in good repair. Emphasis will be placed on:
Toilets, urinals, and shower areas
Floors, walls, windows, and doors
Light Fixtures
Smoke alarms
Kitchen and Dining Hall
Minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs will be performed as needed.
At least weekly, walk through each facility to make sure everything is operational and there is no damage even during the winter months.
To cooperate and assist volunteer work groups.
Help organize tasks and groups at Opening and Closing Days.
The Caretaker must inspect the camp after any major weather event.
Keep available adequate supplies necessary for maintenance such as: toilet paper, paper towels, light bulbs, cleaning supplies, laundry soap, garbage bags, etc. Provide itemized receipt for any purchase made at camp.
Security
To be responsible for Camp security by keeping all buildings and entrances appropriately locked, identifying trespassers, and notifying proper authorities, as necessary.
Duties-Office
Receipts should be given to the Treasurer, as soon as possible, by taking a picture and texting it or via email.
The Caretaker is invited and encouraged to attend the Camp Board of Directors’ monthly meetings. The Caretaker will be required to submit a written monthly report prior to these meetings including the general condition of the buildings and grounds and list tasks completed noting dates for each item.
Caretaker will maintain a debit card. This will be available for fuel, light maintenance expenses, and minor supplies only.
Preparations of facilities and rental oversight
Do a rental walkthrough before the rentals arrive making sure all buildings being rented are cleaned, stocked, and note any current damages or issues that may have a bearing on deposit refunds or liabilities. This will be given to the Administrator before the rental arrives.
Caretaker shall make sure facilities are in good working order. This will include general light maintenance such as lighting hot water heater, plugging in refrigerator, checking stove, ensuring lights are working and in good condition.
Assist the Administrator in doing a before and after inspection with the rental party and will need to pass to qualify for a refund of rental deposit.
Be available and accessible to groups and individuals during their stay at the camp.
Make sure the basement of the Dining Hall is open and available to renters in case of serious weather conditions.
Work along side the Administrator to make sure everything necessary for Summer Camp will be in place prior to camp weeks.
